COLLECTION OF GEM-SET BROOCHES, SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY

Comprising: one brooch centring on a step-cut emerald set within concentric lines of rose- and circular-cut diamonds and step-cut emeralds applied to a black enamel background, framed by surrounds of pearls interspersed by rose-cut diamonds, with pendant loop; and two brooches of girandole design, one of foliate and floral inspiration set throughout with rose-cut diamonds set in cut-down collets, the other embellished with scrolling details set with rose-cut diamonds, step-cut emeralds and black enamel.

All three brooches with rose- and / or circular-cut diamonds, many in closed back settings therefore the weight is difficult to assess. Mixed colours and clarities. Larger brooch: Later brooch fitting which is not secure, could benefit from professional attention. Emeralds well matched with a yellowish green hue, typical crystal inclusions. Minor chips to black enamel but not noticeable when worn. Pearls with creamy bodycolour, two later replacement simulant pearls. Small scroll design brooch: Minor chips to black enamel not visible when worn. All three brooches with signs of wear and tarnish to the metal consistent with the age and wear of the pieces. In good condition.
