Catalogue Note

Kosso Eloul was born in Mourom, Russia in 1920 and emigrated to Eretz Israel with his family in 1924. In 1939 he began his studies in Danziger's studio, but after a short period he left to continue his studies at the Chicago Art Institute. There he became acquainted with pre-Columbian sculpture. In Israel, in 1948, Eloul was one of the founding members of the New Horizons Group. His expressionistic sculptures, with their daring, distorted forms and their similarity to primitive art, were greatly influenced by Danziger's Canaanite sculptures.
