Catalogue Note

Julius Middleton Boyd was an officer of the English East India Company stationed in Western India during the mid-nineteenth century.  He joined the Company's 'Bombay Establishment' in 1856 as a Lieutenant. An album of 36 drawings of landscapes and monuments by him, mainly of locales in Western and Central India, is currently in the collection of the British Library.

This large and beautiful watercolor is possibly set in Baroda, Gujarat, and is very representative of the current British taste in picturesque scenes.
