Description

  • a moghul jade-hilted dagger (khanjar) with cloth-backed scabbard
  • Length: 14 3/4 in (37.5 cm)
Fine curved watered steel blade with central ridge and swollen tip, hilt of pale green stone with grey inclusions, pommel delicately rendered in the form of a horse's head with mane descending on one side, scroll quillons encasing an intricately carved iris flowerhead.

Condition

The double-edged blade now tarnished with some nicks to the edges. The jade in good condition but for a very small nick to the proper right ear. The colour of the jade is considerably deeper than the catalogue illustration with the horse head of a fine green rather than the almost white of the illustration.
