Catalogue Note
The composition of Le Poète et la sirène is related to the marble of the same title, executed in 1909 and now in the Musée Rodin in Paris. Only one other bronze of similar composition is known, however its base differs slightly from the present work. It can be seen in the Burrell Collection at the Glasgow Museum and Art Galleries, and was extensively photographed by Eugène Druet during the seminal 1900 Rodin exhibition in l'Alma.
