Condition

The canvas is not lined. There is stable craquelure throughout the background of the work (visible in the catalogue illustration), and the most severe areas have been retouched. There is also an area of retouching to the table beneath the tablecloth and a 6cm. line of retouching, with an associated nailhead-sized paint loss, to the underside of the table below the bowl of cherries. All retouching is visible under UV light. Apart from a small line of scattered spots of retouching to the centre right of the lower edge, also visible under UV light, this work is in fair condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate, although there is a deeper yellow in the white tablecloth and the lemons in the original.
