Condition

The movement is running, however it may require service soon. The silvered finish of the dial has aged to a slightly warm tone and bears light scratches. The signature is in hard enamel and original. It appears as though the dial has been washed at some point, as the first 'e' in 'Genève' has some loss to the hard enamel. The case is slightly worn with some scuffs. In overall good condition and a beautiful example. The strap of this wristwatch is made from an endangered species; please refer to Important Notices for further information.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming production with diamond indexes in 1962 and sale on September 7th of the following year.

This model, Ref. 2461, was launched in 1960 as a slightly larger version of Ref. 425, and was produced for approximately 15 years thereafter.

The model is sometimes referred to as the 'Tegola', which means 'tile' in Italian. Its predecessor was referred to as the 'Tegolino', which means 'little tile'. For a note on Markowski, the firm responsible for this and other iconic case shapes, see lot 186.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the present example has been offered at auction.
