Condition

The movement is running, however we recommend service soon. The movement has some light surface scuffs visible. The dial is rather discolored and dirty, particularly to the outer edge, but is original and has a nice look to it. The case is generally in nice condition with some of the figures slightly worn, but generally very clear. The interior of the cuvette has some scratches to the edge. The case is not signed.

Catalogue Note

In Greek mythology, the three Fates are known collectively as the Moirae, and individually as Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. They are depicted as female forms, respectively spinning, measuring, and cutting the thread of life. The concept appears throughout European cultures, including Norse, Celtic and and Gallic mythology.

The chasing on the case of the present watch bears a very strong resemblance in style and subject matter to that found on the exceptional Leroy à Paris, sold at Sotheby's Geneva, May 9th, 1989, lot 208. The casework on that watch was signed J. Nodiot, a pupil of Claudius Marioton, who was highly regarded for his excellent Renaissance-style chasing.
