Catalogue Note

This model, the Omega Professional Seamaster 600, was originally designed for use by deep-sea divers and became known as the 'PloProf', for 'Plongeur Professionel'.

The present example is particularly interesting as it has a blue-gray dial. Normally PloProf examples have a standard black dial.

Though most watches are made with the crown at 3 o'clock, the standard PloProf has its crown at 9 o'clock so that the red pusher is more accessible and the relatively cumbersome crown guard does not interfere with wrist movement.

When diving, one can calculate how much oxygen remains in the tank and adjust the bezel for accurate timing. By pushing the red button, the locked bezel releases an the bezel can then be adjusted.

A study conducted by Ocean Systems, Inc., a diving research facility, indicated that the PloProf is proportionally more resistant to pressure and water than a submarine.
