- A FINE AND RARE PRE-BALANCE SPRING GILT-METAL AND ROCK-CRYSTAL PENDANT WATCHCIRCA 1630
- DIAMETER 37 MM
• gilt full plate verge movement with baluster pillars, pinned floral spray cock, fusée with gut line, pierced and engraved foliate decoration to the wheel and click set up • engraved gilt brass dial plate depicting in the centre a river landscape, single blued steel hour hand and Roman numerals • gilt brass frame containing lobed rock-crystal cover and case

Condition
Movement complete but not in working condition, needs adjustments. Dial with a good patina, repaired on the hinged top part, difficult adjustment to the inner rock-crystal case. The rock-crystal in a good condition with a few scuffs on the top of it. Overall, this watch is a very interesting and rare example of a pendant watch from the period.

In the early 17th century, rock-crystal watches were very rare and considered signs of power and wealth, very few examples have survived. In France, the style of Renaissance watches flourished mainly from the reigns of Francois to that of Henri IV.
