Description
This collection of items originates from the August 10, 1946 All-American Boys Baseball Game played ay Wrigley Field in Chicago. The yearly contest sponsored by Esquire Magazine brought together the top high school baseball players in the country. This personal archive belonged to a young participant by the name of Jack Thrush. Includes; 1) 42 page 8 inch by 10 inch spiral bound book given to players. Book features full page photos of all the participants plus plenty of room for autographs. More than 75 signatures are present including Hall of Famers Ty Cobb (Manager of the West), Honus Wagner (Manager of the East), Rogers Hornsby and Luke Appling. All the high school players aside from original owner have signed twice. Once on their picture and once on the opposing page with most giving their home address. Players who went on later to play in the Major Leagues are: Harry Agganis, "Tookie" Gilbert, Hobie Landrith, John Powers, Chuck Stobbs and Pete Whisenant. A ticket stub to the game is also neatly glued to a back page. Pages have a natural curve due to the fact they are all actual photogrphs on thick stock. Front cover is missing and the back cover is in fair condition. Most of the blue ink signatures are strong especially on the autograph pages. LOA from PSA/DNA. 2) Game program. Unscored but some names entered in line-ups. Program contains photos and biographies of all the players plus great information about the 1944 and 1945 games. Some staining at edges of front cover that carries thru to a page or two below. Numerous non-baseball people have signed the front. 3) Full uniform from the game consisting of jersey, pants and stirrups. "Jack Thrush" sewn into collar of Wilson size 40 jersey. "ALL American" in red felt on front. Red white and blue shield patch plus "1946" on left sleeve. "Esquire" and magazine logo is on the right. Dark blue piping. Large red felt "6" on the back, in exceptional condition.
