Joe "Ducky" Medwick 1936-39 H&B Professional Model Bat

Strapping outfielder Joe Medwick starred for the "Gas House Gang" St. Louis Cardinals of the 1930s and the daffy Brooklyn Dodgers of the early 1940s, supplying power to the middle of their lineups. He won the National League's Most Valuable Player Award in 1937 when he captured the Triple Crown with a .374 average, 31 homers and 154 RBI. He drove in and scored 100 runs in a season six times and posted a .324 career batting average in 17 seasons. Manufactured by H&B during the 1936-1939 period, Medwick's professional model bat shows evidence of outstanding use with a crack from the handle to the barrel that has been repaired with glue. Many ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on the left and back barrel. Also visible on the bat are cleat marks on the left and back barrel and there is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. Medwick's number (7) is on the knob in black marker. The era of usage coinciding with Medwick's finest seasons (MVP, Triple Crown), and the heavy use and identifiable player characteristics, make this an ideal example from this Hall of Famer.
