Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This painting has been recently restored and should be hung as is. The linings in the past have been a little harsh and the surface is a little smooth, but for the most part the details throughout seem to be unabraded. The only notable restoration is a vertical tear running down the church tower on the right side, which measures approximately 10 to 12 inches vertically. Elsewhere, there are a few restorations which have been added to diminish some abrasion in the sky. There is another structural damage in the lower left sky above the flag on the mast, but these restorations are quite academic and apart from a few other spots in the foreground, the picture is devoid of any serious restorations.
