This painting has been recently restored and is in beautiful condition. The paper on which it is painted is in lovely state and has been mounted onto linen. There are a few dots of retouch in the sky yet hardly any retouches elsewhere. Overall this painting is very fresh and should be hung as is.

NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

This painting depicts the semicircular terrace of the Villa Melzi, a neoclassical residence near Bellagio, on Lake Como, built between 1808 and 1810 for Francesco Melzi d'Eril, Vice-President of the Cisalpine Republic. Many illustrious guests have stayed at the villa, including Franz Liszt and Stendhal. The villa, which still stands, is a national monument open to the public.
