Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. Although this painting has not been restored for a long time, the condition is very tempting and for the most part it is very encouraging. The canvas has been lined and the paint layer is stable. The lining is not perfect and could be improved. Some cracking has developed in the standing figure on the far right and in the chest of the male figure on the far left. However, the still life in the lower portion of the picture, the remainder of the figures and a most of the sky seem to be in good shape. There are a few heavy cracks or breaks in the canvas running across the top edge which may need restoring, but this picture can be properly cleaned to will reveal a very well-preserved and colorful paint layer.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
