Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This painting has been lined and while the cracking is slightly raised throughout, the paint layer is stable. The picture has been cleaned and softly varnished, and is ready to be hung as is.
In the lower right in the eggplant an old tear is slightly raised and this could be corrected, hopefully without changing the lining. Under ultraviolet light a few cracks around this old restored damage have been retouched. There are also some restorations addressing a loss above the pumpkins in the tree on the right and a few cracks in the darkest colors of the tiny birds towards the top end of the composition. Some attention is required to the tear in the lower right, yet overall the condition is very good.
