Description

  • 7.6 by 6.3 cm.; 3 by 2 1/2 in.
wearing a red uniform with black facings and gold lace, with a white cross band, silver-gilt frame set with half pearls, glazed reserve  

Condition

Ivory ground. The miniature has good colour however extensive use of gum arabic on the uniform has led to crazing - especially on the epaulettes and in the shadows. This has resulted in minor paint loss to the ground.

Catalogue Note

The rare combination of black facings and gold lace on the sitter's uniform suggest that he was either attached to the 58th or 70th Foot Regiments. The two epaulettes on his shoulders indicate that he served in the Grenadier Company of his Regiment.
