Condition
Ivory ground.
The miniatures is in excellent colour and surface condition. There is an extremely fine hair line crack running horizontially across the top between his hair and the border. In many lights this is barely noticable.

Catalogue Note
The sitter was the second son of Sir Edward Dering, 6th Bt. and his second wife Deborah Winchester. Created Baronets in 1627, the family's seat was Surrenden Dering, near Ashford, Kent. He married Charlotte Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Joseph Yates.
