Catalogue Note

Engleheart's sitters book indicates that he painted Master Bosanquet on the 7th May 1795 and was paid 12 gns for the work on the 21st of the same month. This figure is representative of the fee Engleheart charged for a portrait miniature at the time, a figure that was not substantially increased in the ensuing years. The commensurate rates of Smart and Cosway were respectively double and two and a half times that of Engleheart.
