This miniature is in good colour and surface condition.
The miniature is a little loose in the frame. The lacquer of the frame is very lightly crazed and chipped in two places.

Catalogue Note
Anne was the eldest daughter of Richard Chapel Whaley, of Whaley Abbey, Co. Wicklow. On 1st July 1786 she married John Fitzgibbon, who was created Lord Fitzgibbon in 1789 and was advanced to the Earldom of Clare in 1795. They had two sons, both of whom succeeded to the Earldom.
Given that this miniature is dated 1786, it is likely that Horace Hone was commissioned to paint this work to commemorate her marriage. She was also painted, at a later date, in oils by George Romney. (see Ward/Roberts 1904, vol. II, p. 30).
