Description

  • height 28in. (71.2cm) length 38 1/2 in. (98cm)
modeled after the Shomrei Mishmeret Synagogue in Baltimore, MD, the side windows with silver-gilt frets and the front and back windows with abalone and mother of pearl simulating stained glass, one side with furnished study room and Sukkah applied with exotic wood and scattered leaves, the entrance with ebony and mother of pearl marquetry panel, the galleried interior with columns, benches and carpets, the following in silver-gilt; two twenty-four light chandeliers, one nine-light chandeliers, four fixed six-light chandeliers, six wall sconces, a pair of menorahs, a pair of small five-light candelabra, a hanging sabbath lamp, a charity box, a pair of Kiddush cups, a pair of Sabbath candlesticks with a cup, tray and wine bottle, a gilt-mounted Torah Ark with embroidered curtain, and three Torah Scrolls with yads and Torah Shields, also with two tables with embroidered silk covers, a pair of armchairs, two sets of eight chairs, four podiums, two with embroidered clothes, forty-eight velvet cushions banded with silver-gilt thread, two tufted cushions also with gilt thread, fitted for electricity

Catriel Sugarman is a professional artist and craftsman specializing in wood Judaica, who has studied ancient structure for over twenty years.  In addition to the present lot, Mr. Sugarman has also created detailed model of the Beit HaMikdash and ceremonial chair now in the collection of the Yeshiva University Museum, New York.
