Catalogue Note

Referring to the Rabbi's Blessing, Schatz wrote the following in his 1925 monograph "There is no nation or people in the whole world who values a blessing as much as Jews.  We commence to bless from the day we are born to the time of our death, blessing ourselves, our parents, our nation. ..Here portrayed, is a Jewish child whom the Rabbi is blessing. The aged leader spreads hands lovingly over the child and his eyes turned towards heaven. his well shaped lips piously murmur a silent prayer: 'May the Lord bless thee and preserve thee'"
