TWO ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE ENAMELLED SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE TEAPOTS AND COVERS CIRCA 1755-65

Description

  • height of taller teapot 5 1/4 in.
  • 13.3 cm
each painted in a famille-rose palette, the first sprigged on either side with a fruiting vine issuing from a crabstock handle, an exotic bird perched amid the vine on one side and a squirrel above the spout, and the second painted on the front with a vase of flowers on a table beside a jardiniere and on the reverse with a large pink peony, affixed with a crabstock handle and spout. Minor chips and restoration.

Condition

Larger pot: 1 in. area of restoration to rim of cover; several very minor chips to flange of pot; minor glazed-over chips to foot. Smaller teapot: twig knop restored and two patches of restoration to the rim of the cover. Spout extensively restored.
