Description
- height of hexagonal teapot 4 3/4 in.
- 12.1 cm
each washed in green and yellow, the first teapot molded on each side of the hexgonal body with a Chinese figural panel, the second sprigged with a border of birds, fruit and nuts on an impressed cell-pattern ground and the sauceboat molded on the front with sheep and on the reverse with cows from a 'landskip' pattern. Some restoration.
Condition
The square sided teapot:
There are two restored cracks from the rim into the base. Some restoration to the rim, presumably covering small chips and the beginnings of the cracks. The end of the spout is restored and possibly reduced. The knop is restored and is probably a made-up restoration. There is a minor 1/4 inch haircrack to the interior of the flange of the cover.
The second teapot:
The spout has been broken in half and restored back together, and the end of the spout is restored. The handle's been broken off and restored back on. The restoration is very well done. The cover is also extensively restored.
The sauceboat:
A shallow 1/4 inch flake/chip, otherwise in generally good condition.

Catalogue Note
A similar hexagonal teapot was in the Harriet Carlton Goldweitz Collection, sold in these rooms January 20, 2006, lot 143, where the catalogue note discusses the difficulty in attributing the model to any one of several Staffordshire potteries, as well as as the probable design source for the Chinoiserie panels.
