- Approximately: 279cm high, 208cm. wide; 9ft. 2in., 6ft. 10in.
woven with a woodland setting, with a small boy with elaborate urn walking in the left foreground, and an elaborately dressed seated lady with feather plumes in a headress, and flowers in her lap, with a richly dressed male standing before her, his back to us, with red cloak and sword, cuirasse and doublet, and long curly hair; all within an associated deep border incorporating various elements such as quivers, birds, scallop-shells, vases and masks, within scrolls and floral trails, on a brown ground; vertical join
Condition
This tapestry has old hessian lining and metal attachments. It is recommended that it should be re-lined and have Velcro attached across the top for future hanging purposes. This tapestry is made up of of joined sections, see the vertical join up the centre. The 18th century associated border eleements have therefore been added and has joins in several places, for example two in bottom left area. Small patches in areas, for example top and bottom left corners. There is 19th century re-weaving along lower edge of centre of lower border and central section of top border.
This composite tapestry is in stable condition and is decorative panel. Overall appearance in colour and composition is balanced.
