Catalogue Note
Wilson painted a number of versions of this painting which are listed in Constable. The view is taken from the southern shores of Lake Nemi looking northwards beyond Genzano (on the left) and the town of Nemi (at far right) twoards the distant peak of Monte Cavo. It is closely based upon a drawing from Wilson's Italian period c. 1753 (Victoria & Albert Museum).
