STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The overall condition is good. There is some surface dirt and there are some very small surface abrasions.
ULTRAVIOLET
Ultraviolet light reveals re-touching to the face and the hands, as well as areas of re-touching to the right of the canvas.
FRAME
Held in a Baroque style frame.

Catalogue Note
As Mannings suggests this is a 'respectable contemporary replica' of the portrait now in the collection of the Corporation of London. The sitter is painted in his official robes as Chamberlain of London. He married Dorothea Snow in 1727 and was knighted in 1752.
