Catalogue Note

The original owner of this quilt was Elder William Henry Allen, a missionary from Goshen, Utah for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon Church. He served a mission in Hawaii from 1889-1891.  In his journal, he describes this period as the time he was getting ready to leave Hawaii to return to Utah.  He notes that he was presented with this quilt as a going home present. A copy of his journal will accompany this lot.
