- haut. 73 cm

nassa, aux formes synthétisées en volumes géométriques : tête hémisphérique massive, cornes aux extrémités convergentes inscrites dans un cercle presque fermé, mufle signifié par deux plaques rectangulaires parallèles. La très belle puissance des volumes est accentuée par la rigueur de la construction - les traits alignés, la crête médiane rehaussée de rouge. Au centre de la bouche, un trou offrait au porteur, dissimulé sous un volumineux costume de fibres, une vision étroite. Très belle patine sombre, croûteuse.

Catalogue Note
Les masques-heaumes nassa, considérés comme violents et dangereux, se produisaient lors des rites de passages et des funérailles. Selon Fardon (in R.M.N, 1997 : 225), ils étaient entreposés à l'extérieur du village. Les porteurs de masques étant perçus par le reste de la population comme des êtres venus du monde de la brousse.
Parmi le corpus des masques nassa, celui-ci s'impose par la puissance de ses volumes et la très belle rigueur de sa construction plastique.
