Description

  • Rookwood Pottery
  • A Monumental Four-Tile Frieze from the William Koeneman Residence, St. Louis, Missouri
  • tiles impressed ROOKWOOD/FAIENCE and with successive model numbers, the reverse of two tiles partially obscured with mortar

  • glazed earthenware, mounted in a modern wood frame
en suite with the preceding lot

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The reverse of each tile with cement mortar from being recently removed from their original installation. One tile with a small burst air bubble on the edge near the top left corner. Another tile with an old very shallow chip along the edge near the bottom right corner (approximately ½ x ¼ inch). With a few small and minor firing imperfections inherent in the making, and with minor surface soling to the top surfaces of the tiles. With a custom-designed painted wood frame which allows the four tiles to be presented in a continuous linear composition on the wall. If desired, this frame will be given to the successful purchaser of the lot. In reality the colors of the glazes are richer and more saturated than in the catalogue illustrations.
