Condition

Overall in very good condition, retaining its original deeply saturated "warty" patina. The exterior surfaces with some occasional light surface scratches and minor surface abrasions consistent with age and gentle use. The top region of the body with one or two very minor shallow surface indentations, which are difficult to detect due to the textural "warty" finish. Some minor surface soiling to one area of the vase, and with some very minor traces of surface oxidation above the bottom perimeter of the base. The interior with minor soiling, discoloration and surface oxidation consistent with use. A superb example of one of Van Erp's rare "warty" vases with extraordinary scale and a rich vibrant patina showing great nuances and subtleties.

Catalogue Note

This superb "warty" vase is most notably distinguished by its impressive grand scale and elegant silhouette.  The vigorous hand-wrought surfaces bear a rich red patina heightened in deep shades of brown, russet and golden amber.  Synonymous with Van Erp's most accomplished "warty" pieces, the textured surfaces along the bottom register of the vase are masterfully "wrinkled" like a piece of fabric.
