Condition
Pile generally good, ranging from approximately 1/6in. to low to knot heads in some areas in lower section of carpet. Reduced in length with one cut at lower end of upper border. Carpet was also cut in the upper third section and rejoined with an approximately 1in. rewoven strip. Reweave is now faded as visible in catalogue. Another, approximately 1in. by 1in., faded reweave above rewoven strip in left border. Some scattered slightly abrashed areas. Upper end border faded slightly more than rest of carpet - not extensive. Very small faded repiled moth damage in lower section of left side guard border. Flatwoven ends folded under and sewn. Sides original with a 1in. loss to selvage on upper right side - recommend securing. Good overall condition, attractive emblematic design, will enhance with cleaning and minor restoration to selvage.

Catalogue Note
The "Donnemara" was one of several carpets designed by C.F.A. Voysey that were exhibited by Liberty's in their Irish Carpet Exhibition at the Grafton Gallery in London from March 7 to 13, 1903. This design was described in the catalogue as "[a] pleasing rendering of tulips and half blown roses, modulated and blended together with excellent decorative effect. The buds of the tulips, on a plain ground, are introduced as a border pattern." Subsequently, The "Donnemara" carpet was available in many color schemes and sizes through Liberty's of London.
