Literature
Erich Köllmann and Margarete Jarchow, Berliner Porzellan, Munich, 1987, pp. 478-479 (for a service in this pattern with two centerpieces closely related to the present lot)
Wilhelm Siemen, Theodor Hermann Schmuz-Baudiss, 1859-1942, Hohenberg, 1989, p. 87 (for a closely related covered vase with figural lid)
Condition
Generally very good condition. Some light rubbing to the gilding as expected. There is a tight dome-shaped hairline crack that extends upward from the bottom rim of the figural cover (extending approximately 2 inches high and half the diameter of the cover). This piece was likely out and subsequently restored. There is a four inch crack to the vase that starts at the rim and runs down through the gilt decoration, with associated restoration to the gilding. There is also an associated repaired chip to the interior rim of the vase
