Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 25-30 cracks to the glass throughout. The base with some light rubbing to the rich brown patina, most notably at the high points on the cushion base and to the top section of the standard, consistent with age and use. The base with a small area of what appears to be adhesive residue on the outer perimeter of the cushion base. The sockets appear to be original, and one of the pull chains appears to be replaced. Two of the six screws which attach the three risers to the wheel supporting the shade are presently missing. (The riser and wheel are stable and secure, and these screws could be easily replaced if desired.) The period pig-tail finial with some gentle surface wear and soiling, and with a few small shallow bruises along the lower perimeter. A fine example of this iconic and rare model, distinguished most notably by its use of drapery and rippled feather glass to articulate the magnolia blossoms, the fiery golden centers of the flowers, and the mottled light cobalt blue background glass.

Catalogue Note

This shade is distinguished by its artistic use of both "drapery" and "feather" glass to simulate the three-dimensionality of the flower blossoms.  This same type of rippled glass was frequently utilized by Tiffany Studios to depict the drapery and angel wings in religious windows (see lot 67).
