Description
- 32cm. high, 79cm. wide, 48cm. deep; 1ft. ½in., 2ft. 7in., 1ft. 7in.
formerly inlaid, the interior with three drawers, one projecting side with a drawer
Condition
Good, with attractive colour and patina. Typical marks, indents and wear throughout commensurate with age and use. The top rear ledge with old fragmented losses on rear corners. The right end with small partial split and replaced peg. The hinged cover with loss of inlay to the inset pattern and a typical separation. The reverse of cover with slight re-positioning of lock catch. The front with old repair on lower right corner and the reverse of the small drawer front with later corner brackets. Indications of a former escutcheon on the front. The carved sides of this lot are tidy though close inspection shows traces of old worm in the right side return base moulding. The rear is tidy. The interior lock is probably a replacement and the interior with old chipping to drawer knobs and usual separation to floor. This is an imposing early desk box with finely executed carving. The carving is of superior quality. A very good example.
