Three rare English Pewter Chargers, Bristol late 17th/early 18th century

Description

  • diameters: the largest; 51cm., 1ft. 8in., the others; 42cm., 1ft. 4½in.
the largest single reeded example by John Batchelor, Bristol with engraved monogram 'GMN' and stamped 'GMN' to the rim the other single reeded example by Thomas Lanyon, Bristol and Coventry and owner initials 'AP' to the rim, the triple reeded example by John Cave, Bristol and stamped 'IS' to the broad rim (3)

Condition

An attractive group with pleasing colour. Geographical origin is interesting. The rear of each has recent surface scratching. The example with the initials 'IS' with small rim tear and surface scratches and is slightly mis-shapen. The other has some recent scratches and surface pitting. The largest with pitting and with traces of hammering. All of the examples with typical wear consistent with age and use.
