worked in polychrome silk threads, predominantly green, blue, pink and orange with white highlights in areas, in range of stitches, the lower section worked with two bands of the full alphabet in capital letters, above the upper case inscription Phebe Swift her sampler begun the 20th: of June Ended Dec:16th 1671, ÆT(atje): JJ., on a natural linen ground, mounted within a later glazed ebonised and gilt frame
