A Northern French Gothic carved oak armoire 16th century

  • 208cm. high, 128cm. wide, 66cm. deep; 6ft. 9¾in., 4ft. 2¼in., 2ft. 2in.
with an overhanging cornice above a door with nine linenfold panels enclosing three shelves, the sides with three pairs of linenfold panels on stile feet, the inside of the door with further linenfold panels

Condition

Lockplate and hinges later. There have been sections of wood added surrounding the door. The cornice on the top and the frieze on both sides are later additions and there have been restored sections to all the feet. There are construction cracks in some of the panels and the sides have suffered more wear than the rest. All but one of the linenfold panels on the front, bar the one flanking the keyhole are carved on the reverse. In otherwise good conserved condition. Elegant cupboard, attractive size and nice detail to linenfold carving.
