ENAMEL, GEM-SET AND DIAMOND VANITY CASE, 1930s

Description

The rectangular black enamel case applied to the front with a gem-set and diamond giardinetto motif, opening to reveal a mirror, two powder compartments and a lipstick, inscribed Bertie, measurements approximately 78mmx x49mm x 12mm, French assay and maker's marks.

Condition

Weight approximately 146 grams, black enamel with extensive fine abrasions and scratches and several small chips to enamel on the edges, one buff top onyx in catch chipped and cracked, the other buff top onyx chipped and the one buff top ruby cracked. One buff top emerald in giardinetto motif chipped. Mirror cracked top right hand corner, aperture to right hand edge of lid possibly for writing plaque now deficient.
