Description

  • Approximately: 335cm. high, 256cm. wide.
woven with a young maiden within a bed alcove enclosed by blue hangings, and a standing figure of a male in classical dress, with architectural features in the background, flanked between a pair of fluted corinthian solomonic columns partially decorated with a band of figures within fruiting vines, on blue bases, joined by a frieze across the top with a ribbon tied swag of fruit and foliage, and central medallion enclosing a landscape, flanked by cupids with musical horns, with further narrow upper and lower narrow red and gold borders with stylised motifs, and a blue outer selvedge

Condition

This tapestry is faded overall. Worn and with repairs overall. Generally stable repaired condition. See reweaving to the inner sides of areas of the columns, visible as the light coloured areas. The tapestry is lined with old linen and has old hoops attached across the top. It is recommended that Velcro should be added for future hanging.
