depicting a chateau in a landscape with a moat and portico, beside gardens incorporating long balustrades, fountains, and overgrown pavillions, surrounded by various animals including ostriches, squirrels, cranes, a leopard, a porcupine, a reptile, and others with a small pond in the foreground, a group of riders approaching the chateau and various figures enjoying the gardens, other chateaux and ruins in the distance, the broad border decorated in an architectural caprice incorporating fruit, flowers, allegorical figures, and exotic birds and beasts, the weaver's mark on lower right selvage.
Condition
Old lining. Lower selvage almost completely detached. Restorations throughout entire panel. Most creme or beige areas restored. Dry, with splits throughout, particularly upper section, sky, and upper border. Lovely quality, but needs cleaning and attention. Color slightly lighter than catalogue photo.
