Catalogue Note

A series of 'Verdures avec Oiseaux' , woven at Beauvais from 1725 to 1750, is described in Jules Badin, La Manufacture des Tapisseries de Beauvais, Paris, 1909, p. 56.  The designs for the exotic and naturalistically rendered birds in these compositions are related to those drawn from the menagerie at Versailles by Jacques de Kerchove and Adrien Campion for the 'Ports de Mer' series woven at Beauvais from 1693 (Badin, op. cit., p. 55).
