Description
each of hollow cylindrical form, the first incised and stained green on one side with a warrior and horse among pine trees, the other side with a lake scene with figures among inlets and pavilions, inscriptions to each side, covers on each end attached to cord; the other case carved with peony branches and flowers issuing from a rock, an inscription above, both ends mounted with pierced wan-symbol metal fittings attached to a carrying cord (2)
Condition
The smaller one in good condition. The string on the cord is broken at one end. The larger one, bamboo is warped at one join resulting in ΒΌ inch gap.

Catalogue Note
The inscription in regular script on the smaller scroll case can be translated as: 'Great wealth, high position and longevity for the leisurely appreciation of Your Highness, Xingsan, Intendant of Circuit, carved by Wang Xun.' The other side: 'The far and level landscape of the stream and the mountain. In the 4th month of the year jiyou. Zhuming carved again.'
The inscription written in clerical script on the other scroll case can be translated as: 'The virtue is above all goodliness. The wings are hovering. This gentleman has inherent virtues.'
