Description

the shaped carrying case of double octagonal sections, decorated in gold, silver and black hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and hirame with thatched houses behind a hedge, fences to the left and pine trees issuing from rockwork, under geese in flight,  with large scattered hanabishi (flower lozenge) gold family crests (mon), all on a ground of fine nashi-ji, the rims decorated in lozenge and flower-patterned bands, keyfret borders around the metal handle, the inner surface of the case in gold hiramaki-e with peony and chrysanthemum flowers and foliage on a red lacquer ground, enclosing a single octagonal tray decorated with three karako (Chinese boys) pulling a flower basket on a cart, above an octagonal  four-tier box and cover (jubako) decorated with a garden and bridge under a silver moon, the sides with ho-o birds and flowers between the brocade pattern, on a nashi-ji ground with the same family crests, and a single octagonal box with the design of orange flowers, peaches, pomegranates, lychees, grapes and loquats containing a single gold sakazuki (sake cup) decorated with chrysanthemums on a stream, and a silver double-gourd tokkuri (sake bottle) carved in kebori with scrolling foliage on a nanako ground

Condition

There are two slight water marks to the top right section of the frame (carrying case).There is one old chip to the rim on the right bottom (on the edge of the frame of tiered boxes). There is a chip on the stand to the bottom edge (the part which holds the single box). Top of the red lacquer where the sake bottle is placed has two lacquer losses, one is restored. Around the silver lacquer, there are some oxidation. Otherwise in good condition.
