the cover showing the shaped folds of the fan decorated in gold hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirigane and hirame on a kimpun scattered kinji ground, with two long-tailed birds on a rock among peony, camellia and cherry blossoms besides a stream, delicate maple leaves scattered on the bamboo spines, the sides with ducks under nandina, three quail under rose mallow and pinks, a hawk searching for prey perched on a plum tree issuing from a rock, the interior in fine hirame and risers in geometric hanabishi (flower lozenge) bands (2)
