Description

decorated in gold, silver and red hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirigane, kimpun, togidashi and with ivory, metal and glass inlays, each exterior with two open fans depicting a hut beside autumn plants, priest's sack (oi) with maple trees and grape vines, plovers flying over water and pine groves and iris and yatsuhashi bridges on kin-ji and nashi-ji scattered fan, the design from the Ise Monogatari, the sides with silver feathers overlapped with edges of fans, all on a nashi-ji ground, the interiors decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e and mother-of-pearl with ho-o birds in flight and kiri (paulownia), on a hirame scattered ro-iro ground, the suzuribako fitted with an ink stone and metal water dropper (suiteki) (2)

Condition

There are some oxidation around the silver lacquer of the writing box especially on the lower fan (see illustration) and the silver lacquer feathers on the sides. The document box also has similar silver lacquer oxidation especially on lower fan, but it is otherwise in good condition.
