Description

the rectangular top with molded edge over a recessed waist above an arched and scrolled apron with beaded edge, continuing to the cabriole legs terminating in scroll and foliate-carved feet, the wood of a pale golden brown

Condition

minor repairs to corners of apron where it meets legs, small nails reinforcing joins, small repair to one corner of waist under top, upper interior edge of one leg with filled crack (not visible on exterior), minor spotting on top

Compare a huanghuali square kang table with similar silhouette attributed to the late 16th to the early 17th century, illustrated by Kai-Yin Lo et al, Classical and Vernacular Chinese Furniture in the Living Environment, Hong Kong, 1998, no. 17, pp. 130-131. Compare also a similar table, attributed to the late 16th century to the early 18th century, illustrated in Grace Wu Bruce, Living with Ming-The Lu Ming Shi Collection, 2000, no. 41, pp. 150-151.  A table of similar form with slightly more elaborate carving to the apron was sold in these rooms, 2nd June 1993, lot 570.
