Description

the rectangular top with bracketed and raised flanged ends and molded edge, over three drawers with applied incised scrolled arches and brass lockplates with bail handles, over a wide bisected skirt and arched plain bracketed apron, the splayed legs of rectangular section, the wood of a golden-brown color

Condition

assembled of old elements, scattered minor dings ad scratches, one applied front drawer arched molding with replaced 2 1/2 inch segment, 1 1/2 by 1/2 inch patch above apron, rear right leg with pin repair, left front leg with loss to back of foot and repair to upper section of said leg, fill to cracks and chips of feet, small triangular patch to upper section of right side, small scorch-marks to underside of top on right side

E12, p. 169. Compare also a coffer table of similar form, with arched and pierced scrolled apron, illustrated in Robert Hatfield Ellsworth, Chinese Furniture, Hardwood Examples of the Ming and Early Ch'ing Dynasties, New York, 1970, no. 60, p. 162. A coffer table of similar form, with round lockplates was sold at Christie's New York, 18th September 2003, lot 25.
