Description
each of generously wide U-shape rising to an everted lip, painted overall in a deep cobalt-blue, the interior sides with five scrolling lotus flowers surrounding a single lotus bloom enclosed in double-rings at the center, a band of loosely painted lotus flowers below the interior rim, the exterior also decorated with five scrolling lotus flowers above pointed lappets, all reserved against a ground of scrolling foliate vines, supported on slightly tapered feet (2)
Condition
One bowl with a hairline extending from the rim approximately 2 inches long. The rim also with two small chips very close together, their total length 3/8 inch. Another chip on opposite side of rim 1/8 inch. Negligible iron spots and pinpricks to the rim.
The other bowl with three pieces broken and later restored, all three pieces adjacent and together form a U shape from the rim. Total length of all three restored pieces along the rim is 5 1/2 inches. The focal point of the three pieces, at the bottom of the 'U', is a triangular-shape patch that has been filled in with a plaster-like material. Ten small chips to the rim, the largest 1/4 inch long. Minor fritting along the rim. Hairline crack 2 3/4 long from the rim opposite from restored area.
