Catalogue Note
First edition, later issue. Kitchin was one of the most prolific map publishers in Britain in the third quarter of the eighteenth-century. His General Atlas first appeared in 1773 and was re-issued in 1777, 1780, 1782, (1786), 1787, 1795, 1796, 1798, 1808, and 1810, at first by John Sayer, then Sayer and Bennett, and finally by Laurie and Whittle (Tooley, Maps and Mapmakers, p. 56). The present atlas was most likely issued in 1777.
